Volleyball legend steps down

— posted by Mike Cummings

Pam Wilkins has stepped down as Addison High’s volleyball coach, citing a desire to spend more time with her eight-year-old son.

Wilkins made quite a name for herself and her alma mater during her eight years as head coach, winning five state titles and sending several players to college. The Bulldogs won the Class 1A crown last fall after taking the 2A title in 2009.

In an interview with The Cullman Times, Wilkins said she hopes two former players, Lana Pigg or Kayla Woodard, will succeed her as coach.

For Addison, Kaitlin Parker racked up 15 kills to go with three blocks, while Sadie Beam recorded 11 kills, eight digs and three aces. Morgan Ray tallied 13 kills and five blocks, Alex Scott had 19 digs, and Heather Baldwin added 43 assists.

ABS is the defending Class 1A state champion, and Addison is the defending Class 2A state champion. Both programs have plenty of tradition, so tomorrow’s title match should be entertaining.
