Hello, folks, and welcome to River City Ramblings – The Decatur Daily’s official high school sports blog.
My main man Mike Cummings and I (Cody Whitlock) will keep you informed on prep sports happenings, and it’s our pleasure to supply you with this extra online content. Be sure and check out our prep coverage in The Decatur Daily, as well as decaturdaily.com.
Well, it’s already Week 3 of high school football season, so here’s a quick recap:
Decatur High has started the season with a couple of convincing wins against rival Austin and region foe Huntsville. The Class 6A Red Raiders are playing as well as anybody in the area right now and can make another statement this week with a tough road test at Sparkman.
Austin got new head coach Jeremy Perkins his first win last week against Huffman, and the Black Bears have the talented, experienced playmakers to get him several more this year.
The usual suspects – including Hartselle, Athens, Tanner and R.A. Hubbard – all have enjoyed exceptional starts to the 2010 season and figure to be in the mix once the postseason arrives.
Expect a few surprises as well this season. West Limestone has began the season with a couple of impressive wins, and the Wildcats – led by running back/receiver Alex Taylor – could make a push at a playoff berth in what’s expected to be a crowded Class 4A, Region 8 race.
The season is still young, but we’ll be here every step of the way. Our efforts won’t stop after the football state champions are crowned. No, we’ll continue presenting prep sports topics past the last day of school.
Thanks for reading and come back soon.
