Athens visits Austin tonight in a non-region matchup of Decatur-area powers.

  • Athens leads the all-time series 21-10-1. Last year, the Golden Eagles pulled out a thrilling 45-41 victory over Austin on a last-second touchdown pass from Stephen Rivers to Ryan Horton. Both graduated.
  • Austin started 3-0 but suffered its first loss last week at Oxford. Athens has alternated losses and wins all year, starting with a loss to Hartselle in Week 1.
  • Austin’s offense is among the area’s best. The Black Bears have scored 147 points, an average of 36.75 per contest. Running backs Seth Lynch and Josh Walker lead the attack, while sophomore Chris Sparkman calls the shots at quarterback. Austin has allowed 121 points, or 30.25 per game.
